Best monitors for photo editing (2018) above £1,000

Spectraview NEC MonitorFrom £1,000 on, we enter a world of superlative color display and big-sized monitors. The names of the brands? DELL, NEC of course and obvisouly EIZO, the current leader on the market. The most expensive screens are "just" bigger and with more guarantees for photo edition professional who have to comply the norms and standards for their clients. At a given time, the display of colors on a "simple" Spectraview and on the wonderful Spectraview Reference could then be perfectly identical. The only difference is that the first one isn't perpetually "monitored" and hasn't been handpicked among a bunch of others!

EIZO ColorEdge CG2420

£1,299.00

What I think about the Eizo CG2420 monitor

Warning!
The CX241 was replaced by the CG2420.

Eizo is clearly repositioning its range of ColorEdge screens in 2016. The new CG2420 and CG2730 feature characteristics that are close to the old CG247 and CG277 with a built-in colorimeter that is a slight bit less accurate and less certifications... apart from that, they set new records after calibration. Truly beautiful!A few of the values measured: my all-time records, quite simply!

My rate: 10/10! A real little wonder! My favorite product, my crush, just go for it if you don't need the different certifications.

Screen Eizo CG247

EIZO ColorEdge CG247X

£1,312.00

What I think about the screen Eizo CG247X - The reference for 24"!

This new range Eizo ColorEdge CG247X and CG277X is all about perfection and refinement. The new plate enables to reach a contrast level of 1,500:1 just like the CG2420. The most beautiful screens in the world for professional editors, video makers and photo enthusiats who want to focus on their photos... or editions only (plug it in DisplayPort if you're a photographer and want to benefit from the 10 bits in 60Hz and in HDMI if you're a video editor and need to work in 48 or 50Hz). Note! The review below is the review of the model CG277.

My rate (for the CG277): 11/10! The X should reach 12/10! Perfect colors and homogeneity, like a "simple" CG2420, but with many video options, all the standards for printers, video makers or professional editors, the cap and the built-in and programmable sensor. Lucky - and rich - are the ones who own it!

Main characteristics of the EIZO CG247X

Size: 24-inch 16:9 - 1,920 x 1,200,
Plate: IPS (White LED), new matte plate,
Color spaces: Adobe RGB 98, 98% of DCI, 100% of REC 709, 100% of sRGB,
Brightness/contrast: 400 Cd/m2 / 1,500:1 (Eizo)
LUT table: 10/16 bits,
Uniformity: automatic control (DUE)

Screen NEC PA242

NEC MultiSync PA242W

£936.00

What I think about the screen NEC PA242W

At this price, you won't have a cap nor calibration sensor nor all the guarantees and standards certifications of the Spectraview Reference but you'll have the same plate and, if you buy it from Graphic Reseau, you'll also get the program Spectraview II, a reference. So a very high level of quality that is maybe enough for you?

My grade (for the PA242): 9,0/10 - NEC's best value for money, almost as good as the Eizo CS240 but sensibly more expensive unfortunately.

Main technical characteristics of the NEC PA 242

Size: 24-inch 16:10 - 1,920 x 1,200,

Screen Eizo ColorEdge EV2750W

EIZO EV2750W

£679.90

What I think about the screen Eizo EV2750W

$250 cheaper than the CS270, which displays the color space Adobe RGB 98 – so it IS possible to treat yourself to an incredibly beautiful Eizo screen with all the display qualities that come with it – you have my word of reviewer! - even if this one "only" displays sRGB. But do we all really need to work on a wide gamut screen? Read my answer to this question...

If you don't need the color space Adobe RGB 98, you can treat yourself to a very beautiful 27" Eizo screen that is $250 cheaper. If you never print and to the contrary, work exclusively for the web, you might even be glad not to have to make up with all the consequences of such a choice...

This website is almost entirely free and yet almost free of ads. Why? Because they look so bad! It is lucrative though, and enables many websites to keep on living. So I asked myself: what can I do? To keep on developing this website, I'm going to need a regular income just like everyone else. How can I keep on giving access to free information like I've been doing since April 2002?

And I finally found the answer: affiliation. Every time you click on a link from this site to one of my partners' shops, they know you've been referred by me and give me a small percentage on your purchase, be it something I recommend on my website or anything else. Remember to use my links when you shop on these sites! It doesn't cost you anything and it's a win-win deal – for me, them, and you!
